Learning Support

We aim to create a fully inclusive curriculum and environment in Friends’ Prep in which all children, including those with special educational needs, can realise their potential.

Our Learning Support Co-ordinator, Mrs Ruth Connolly, helps to assess and support those children who are experiencing difficulties with learning. We aim to identify children with special educational needs as early as possible and intervene promptly.

An experienced specialist learning support teacher, Mrs Anne Totten, provides advice and resources to class teachers and works with individuals or groups of children who require more intensive support. Our dedicated classroom assistants are at the heart of the school and provide additional in-class and small group support throughout the department.

Some pupils will require an Individual Education Plan (IEP) that sets short term achievable targets for a child. IEPs are discussed and reviewed with both pupil and parents at regular intervals. Parental support is paramount in maximising progress. We aim to keep open communications with parents of those children being supported. We work closely with relevant external agencies for children who may require a more detailed assessment of their needs.
